Cochrane, an international non-profit organization, was founded in 1992 in the United Kingdom,with the aim to produce, update and disseminate systematic reviews of scientific literature in various areas of healthcare. The Cochrane Editorial Group on Drugs and Alcohol, which was formed in 1998, is part of the Cochrane and is responsible for conducting systematic reviews of trials on the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of problematic use of psychoactive substances. It consists of ten editors working in Australia, China, Great Britain, USA and Italy, the group editorial is based in Rome at the DEP.
